I Can See The Finish Line

My fundraising deadline is in 24 hours.  One day left for you to make a difference in the life of a patient with a blood cancer.  Any little bit helps. Here's a breakdown:

$25 provides patients and their loved ones with booklets that contain up-to-date information on their disease and helps them make informed decisions about their treatment options

$50 makes possible a Family Support Group with a trained facilitator where comfort can be found and experiences can be shared among patients and family members

$100 provides one-on-one conversations with Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Information Specialists who help people with cancer navigate through treatment, financial and social challenges, and give accurate, up-to-date disease and treatment information

$300 can train 25 peer volunteers who can provide emotional and practical support to newly diagnosed patients through the First Connection program

$500 can help send 25 LLS advocates to champion policies that accelerate cures and improve access to health care for patients living with blood cancer

$1,000 helps provide laboratory researchers with materials necessary to perform experiments which are critical in their search for cures

$100,000 can fund one research through LLS's "New Idea Award" grant program designed to identify novel research strategies with high potential for high impact on the future of blood cancer treatments.

Lots of you donated $25-$100, what a difference it makes!  Lots of people donated less, including nearly $200 collected in spare change, it all adds up.  Together we've raised nearly $2,000, enough to support lab research.  Our team of 42 participants has raised $106,571.  Hopefully by this time tomorrow we will reach our team goal of $200,000.

That is a lot of nickels and dimes and pennies and checks and credit card donations adding up to a huge, HUGE, impact on cancer research and treatment.

If you're waiting to add your pennies to the pot, the time is now.  Here's the link: http://pages.teamintraining.org/vtnt/starwr15/knealf

What's Going On These Days?

~On December 29th, we're having a fundraiser night at Orange Leaf Stillwater!  10% of sales from 6pm - 9pm will go to Team in Training.  Join us!!

~Need a tax write off?  Coincidentally, I need to raise money by December 31st.  You can donate here: http://pages.teamintraining.org/vtnt/starwr15/knealf

~My  sister-in-law donated a lovely scarf which I then forgot to take with me to the raffle event.  The next person who donates at least $10 through the websiste gets a bonus scarf!! (here's the link if you need it:  http://pages.teamintraining.org/vtnt/starwr15/knealf)

~The 46 people on my TNT Flex Team for the Star Wars Half have donated $98,010, and our fundraising deadline isn't until next week.  Go Team!  Check out my amazing teammates: http://pages.teamintraining.org/ho/starwr15  I just found this page and I love it!  It shows all of my teammates, with links to our individual teams.  Spoiler alert- they're all faster than me.

~I think I've run 150 miles training.  Woohoo!  In September I didn't run at all.  Now I'm a "runner".  I'm so proud of me.

~While many of my Teammates are completing the Rebel Challenge (10K on Saturday, half marathon on Sunday), I'm just training to complete my race in the time limit.  13.1 miles?  No big thing.  13.1 miles in 3.5 hours? Bit of a problem.  Who cares?  If the slow bus picks me up, I'm still faster than everyone on the couch.

Newest Fundraising Letter

Want a copy of my latest fundraising letter?  You could have this in your hands.  With BONUS Star Wars stickers!!  Send me your address and I'll send real, tactile mail.

Donate you must.  Encourage you will.

Have you heard? I’ve signed up to complete the Star Wars Half Marathon at Disneyland on January 18, 2015. I’m working with Team in Training (TNT) to help fund cancer support and research through The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

The mission of TNT and LLS is to cure blood cancers and improve the quality of life for patients and their families. They are making great strides in the survivorship rate for blood cancers by funding over 200 researchers worldwide. They are developing miracle drugs, such as Gleevec (funded solely by TNT participants). This is a successful alternative to traditional chemotherapy, and it is also being positively tested on many other forms of cancer.

My financial goal is to raise $2,500.00 of which 100% is tax deductible and 78 cents out of every dollar benefits The Society and its mission (the other 22% benefits TNT). If you give a dollar for each mile, or $13.10, then I will easily meet my fundraising goal. How about a dollar for every mile I have run during training? Today that’s $135.00. The deadline for fundraising is coming up very quickly, December 31, 2014.

My running goal is to finish the half marathon in the allowed time. Some days I’m a little closer to that goal than others, but I’m still doing very well. When I started this journey in September I did not run. Ever. I wanted one of those “0.0” stickers for my car. Now I “run” (with lots of walking) most days. My heart, mind, and muscles will help me accomplish the running goal, but accomplishing my financial goal cannot be done without you!

You can track my running and fundraising progress at http://runlikeajedi.blogspot.com/.

Every little bit helps, and every donation is greatly appreciated. Also, every donation that is at least $5 is a tax write-off. If you are able to support me in this mission with a financial donation, you can donate using a debit or credit card at my online fundraising website:

My fundraising page is also linked on my training blog, so you only have to remember:  runlikeajedi.blogspot.com.

If it is more convenient, you may also make a check or money order out to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and mail it to me at: Krista Neal 1123 W. Will Rogers Stillwater, OK 74075.

Even if you do not make a donation, please visit my blog and view my training progress. I update it often. Not only do I need your financial support, I need your moral support!

If you have any questions, contact me at kristakaye@hotmail.com or call me at 405-334-3305.

Thank you for taking the time to read this letter and helping me to save lives one mile at a time.

Love and kisses,
Krista

I Don't Know That You Fully Understand My Excitement

On Saturday night I did my long "run".  I walked it.  Coach Lauren says that's ok, because I walk faster than I run.  Awesome (read that in sarcasm font).  Whatevs.

Here's the super duper extra incredibly cool thing: my last miles were my fastest.  Yay!  For once I didn't start fast (of course, "fast" is a relative term) and slog my way to the finish.  Seriously.  This is HUGE!  My last long run when I did 10 miles I nearly cried the last 1.5.  Brandon had to come get me and encourage me on.  Saturday night I finished strong and could have done more.  Really huge.

I am so very, very proud of me.

Also.  The long run on Saturday was cool because I didn't have to spend all day on Sunday recovering.  The schedule doesn't always work for me to spend 3 hours "running" on Saturday, but it's nice when it works out.  Although, I have had some lovely Sunday mornings too.

I'm going to have to get faster because if I'm slow I'm going to run out of Serial before I run out of training miles.  There's a pretty good motivator for you.

Here's the other thing that's super duper extra incredibly cool thing: I have the most wonderful financial donors.  Really.  People I see all the time and can really pester.  People I haven't seen in 20 years and are released from serious pestering.  People I only see at funerals (you know who you are).  People I don't even know IRL.  All kinds of friends who are helping me on this journey.  The words "thank you" aren't strong enough.  If you haven't gotten one yet, you'll get a thank you card in the mail, but even actual physical mail isn't a strong enough THANK YOU.  I don't even know how to say it so that you all know how much I mean it.  THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!  Does "Thank you Easter Bunny. Bock Bock" cut it?  I can't thank you enough.

And if you're at home and want actual, physical mail that a person brings to your house, here is the link to my fundraising page: http://pages.teamintraining.org/vtnt/starwr15/knealf

Technically, I'm gonna let the wookie win the race, but I'm already winning.

Not My Best

Tonight I was tired, cold, head is starting to hurt and I was supposed to do 5 miles.

I did the thing where I say, ok, just one lap (1.1 miles).  Just one, then you can quit.

I did 2 laps.  Yay.

Not 5 miles.  But today getting off the couch was a win.  Go me.
